This policy explains how M7NTE.UK handles personal data and technical information when you use the UK amateur radio callbook, HLR lookup and related tools.

1. Who is responsible for this website?

References to “we”, “us” and “M7NTE.UK” in this policy mean Dave Morgan operating this website.

2. UK amateur radio callbook

The callbook uses amateur radio licensing data supplied through Ofcom’s Amateur Radio Call Book disclosure process. The underlying licensing authority remains the authoritative source for licence records.

Public search results are deliberately limited to:

• call sign;
• operator or club name; and
• broad location, such as town and country.

Street addresses and full postcodes are not displayed by the public callbook.

If your licence record is inaccurate, contact Ofcom to correct the underlying record. If you want M7NTE.UK to review a record for suppression or correction while the source data is updated, contact us using the details above.

3. HLR lookup

When you submit a mobile number to the HLR lookup, that number is sent to the lookup provider so that it can return network, validity, routing or reachability information. Only submit a number where you have a legitimate reason and permission to make the check.

To improve reliability and reduce repeat provider requests, HLR responses may be cached for up to 28 days. Cached information can include the submitted number, country, carrier, status and the provider’s response. This information is not used for marketing.

4. Technical information and security

When you visit the site or use a tool, our hosting environment may process technical information such as IP address, browser and device information, requested page, referring page, date and time. This is used for security, diagnostics, operation and abuse prevention.

The callbook and HLR tools use server-side rate limiting. This uses a hashed form of the IP address for a limited period to control misuse. Session cookies are used where necessary for security features such as CSRF protection and request handling.

5. Local storage

The callbook may store a small list of recent searches in your own browser’s local storage. This is stored on your device, not in a M7NTE.UK user account. You can remove it at any time through your browser’s site-data controls.

6. Why we process information

We process information to provide and protect the requested service, maintain the callbook and respond to correction or suppression requests. Where UK GDPR applies, this is generally on the basis of legitimate interests in operating a useful and secure amateur-radio reference service, and in preventing misuse. Where a service requires you to submit information, processing is also necessary to provide that service.

7. Sharing and external links

We use hosting and technical service providers to run the website. HLR numbers are shared with the HLR lookup provider solely to complete the requested lookup. We do not sell personal data or use it for targeted advertising.

The site includes links to external services such as Ofcom, QRZ, RadioID and Buy Me a Coffee. Their websites are independent and have their own privacy policies.

8. Retention

• HLR lookup cache: up to 28 days, unless a shorter period is necessary.
• Rate-limiting records: up to one hour.
• Session data: normally removed when the session expires or is cleared.
• Web-server logs: retained for the period set by the hosting environment, then rotated or deleted.
• Callbook data: retained only while included in the source dataset or needed to operate suppression/correction controls.

9. Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction or objection to processing. To make a request, email support@m7nte.uk with enough information for us to identify the relevant record and assess the request.

You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office. ICO guidance and contact details are available at ico.org.uk.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the tools, services or legal requirements change. The latest version will always be published on this page.
